Just War theory and Jesus

“I give you the gift of peace. In the same way the Father sent Me, I am now sending you.” (john 20,21)

Luke 6:27-31
“But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

Romans 12:17-18 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.

Augustine admonished that Christians, “by divine edict, have no choice but to subject themselves to their political masters and [should] seek to ensure that they execute their war-fighting duty as justly as possible.”[

Who’s Prayers Does The God of Abraham Hear?
James 1:27 “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
Blessed Are The Peacemakers, For They Will See God

As a New Testament Christian, I don’t use quotes in the Old Testament on violence and war. We are free of the law and prophets by the  grace of Jesus.  (See Hebrews)

All was fulfilled when Jesus died for our sins. We are under a New covenant.

None of the pictures shown are my property. This is a non-commercial site. If you reuse  these pictures remember this. I do salute the photographers and artist who took these amazing and touching pictures. God bless you each.

We will discuss pacifism, just war, greater in a future blog. Consider what you see.
